The Redneck Games
Every year, in July, in East Dublin, Georgia there is a weird and controversial competition called the Redneck Games. Bizzare Traditional Sports
Everybody loves sport. If nowadays, most of us are interested by football, volleyball, or athletics, there are also other people who choose more traditional versions. Some bizarre traditional sports represent a real proof of a beautiful history. Despite their anonymous side, these sports are very popular in their home countries.
Kabaddi
The traditional sport in Bangladesh might seem a little too childish for some of you. However, Kabaddi is taken very seriously in this Asian country, as well as in certain provinces in India such as Punjab, Tamil Nadu, or Andra Pradesh. Well, how does the rules of this game work? Two teams stand face-to-face on a 13x10 meters try to break the chain made by the players in the opposing team. In order to manage this, both teams send, successively, a raider to break the opponents' chain made by linking hands. The opponents will try to hold the raider as long as possible and stop him from returning to his team before taking a breath. An important rule of the Kabaddi is that the raider is not allowed to breath when returning. He holds his breath saying “kabaddi, kabaddi, kabaddi” until he gets to his team. If he breaths, his team loses points. When the chain is broken, one of the a member of the defending team is eliminated. A team can score two points when the entire opposing team is eliminated. When a player is out, the opposing team wins one point. At the end, the team with the most points wins. Even if it sounds rather childish, you should find out that there is a World Cup of Kabaddi that already has three editions, all won by India.
